AI can help you preserve the ordinary stories of your life before they're forgotten

We tend to think a life story has to contain extraordinary events.

It doesn't.

Some of the memories future generations may treasure most are remarkably ordinary.

What was your childhood home like?

What did your parents do?

What did you eat for Sunday lunch?

What was your first job?

How did you meet your husband or wife?

Where did you go on your first holiday?

What did Christmas feel like when you were ten?

These little details disappear surprisingly easily.

That's why Preserve Your Life Story with AI is one of the prompts in my book.

Let AI interview you

Don't sit down and announce:

β€œToday I shall write my autobiography.”

You'll probably still be staring at a blank page half an hour later.

Instead, try:

I want to record some memories of my life for my children and grandchildren. Interview me about my childhood. Ask me one question at a time and use my answers to suggest interesting follow-up questions.

Then answer naturally.

Start with ordinary memories

AI might ask about:

Your childhood home.

School.

Neighbours.

Family holidays.

Games you played.

Food you remember.

Your grandparents.

Your first television.

Your first car.

Your first job.

The answers don't have to be beautifully written.

They're raw memories.

Turn the conversation into something worth keeping

After you've answered perhaps ten questions, ask:

Using only the information I've given you, turn my answers into a warm first-person account that I could give to my family. Don't invent details.

Then edit it.

Add names.

Correct mistakes.

Put back expressions you would naturally use.

AI helps with the structure.

The memories remain yours.

Imagine doing this once a week

One short interview every Sunday.

Childhood one week.

School the next.

Working life.

Marriage.

Parenthood.

Holidays.

Funny family stories.

People who influenced you.

Within a year you could have something extraordinarily valuable.

Not because AI created it.

Because AI helped you preserve it.
