You don't need to understand Artificial Intelligence. You just need to know what to ask it.

If you're new to Artificial Intelligence, it's very easy to make the whole subject more complicated than it needs to be.

You hear about ChatGPT, prompts, algorithms, machine learning and all sorts of other terminology.

Before long you may find yourself thinking:

“Perhaps this isn't really meant for me.”

But here's something I discovered.

You don't need to understand how Artificial Intelligence works before you can benefit from it.

You simply need to start talking to it.

Try this simple AI prompt

One of the prompts in my book AI Made Simple for the Over 50s is called Explain It Simply.

The principle couldn't be easier.

When you encounter something you don't understand, ask AI to explain it in language that makes sense to you.

For example, you could type:

Explain [SUBJECT] to me in straightforward everyday English. Assume I am completely new to the subject. Avoid jargon and give me a simple example to help me understand it.

Replace [SUBJECT] with virtually anything.

For example:

Explain cryptocurrency to me in straightforward everyday English.

Or:

Explain cloud storage to me in straightforward everyday English.

Or:

Explain what an ISA is and give me a simple example.

The important point isn't the particular subject.

It's that you decide how you want AI to explain it.

Don't understand the answer?

Ask again.

This is one of the things I particularly like about AI.

You don't have to pretend you've understood something when you haven't.

Simply type:

I still don't quite understand. Explain it again using an even simpler example.

It doesn't become impatient.

It doesn't think you're asking a silly question.

It simply tries another explanation.

Try it today

Think of one thing you've heard or read recently that you didn't completely understand.

Open ChatGPT and ask it to explain it.

That's all.

Your first useful experience with AI doesn't need to involve anything clever.

It can begin with three words:

“Explain this simply.”
